OK so maybe that title is a bit exaggerated. Of course I could live without these things, just like I could also technically live...
UPDATE 8/2016: So much for the zip line… apparently someone got hurt so the city took it down. I don’t know the details… if you do please comment and let us know.
One of the things that amazes me about Ventura is how many people haven’t really discovered how many great things there are nearby. My neighbor has lived in the Ventura Keys for 22 years and has never been out to the Channel Islands. I’ve talked to several people who have never driven up into the Sierras to see the Giant Sequoias or to ski at Mammoth Mountain. One of my favorite places to go is Marina Park which is tucked away in the Pierpont/Ventura Keys neighborhood. It’s a public park with a lot to offer, including Ventura’s only zip-line (OK it’s just a small one for kids but they LOVE it).
There are big grassy areas for picnics and Frisbees which are actually still green. I’m all for pitching in to save water but it’s really nice to still have a little green oasis to visit. There is beach access with lifeguards in the summer. You’ll also fine a new playground, the pirate ship zip-line, a small pier, picnic tables and BBQ’s and public restrooms. There are nice paths too that lead to the point by the harbor. It’s one of the best views in Ventura.
The only caveat – this place is insanely crowded on any holiday weekend, and pretty much any Sunday. So you might save yourself the aggravation of parking and just ride your bike down there.
So if you live in Ventura and haven’t visited Marina Park what are you waiting for? Here’s a map… come discover one of the best things here.
