Free Downtown Ventura WiFi

Free Ventura WiFi

Bring your iPad to lunch if you’re going to be dining in downtown Ventura, because now you can soak up some free WiFi while you dine!  The city rolled out its new free “Ventura Downtown WiFi” network this week and I’m pleased to say I’m using it right now to add this blog post and so far it’s working great.   Kudos to the city for just opening the network up and not handing the contract over to T-Mobile or one of those other silly pay-per-hour companies.  Take note LAX… if Burbank airport and the city of Ventura can do it why can’t you??

Are you kidding me with these HDMI cable prices?

So like many Americans last week, I decided to upgrade to HDTV for the Super Bowl.  I really don’t care about the game in particular, but the two things that I think look great in HD are Pixar movies and football.

Well I got a pretty good deal on the TV at the Oxnard Best Buy, but man did they want to rip me off on the cables!  The cheapest HDMI cable they carry is $30 and cheapest optical audio cable is $20.  Well a little research told me that you can get HDMI cables on Amazon for less than $7, and Optical audio cables for $2.  And I can’t see or hear any difference. I’m sure the marketing department at Monster Cable can tell you there is some kind of data showing their cables are worth $90, but brother I don’t see it.  I think it’s purely a value play, as in “Well you’re spending $2,000 on a TV… don’t you think it’s worth another $90 to get the best possible HDMI cable?”  Answer: NO.

Don’t let Best Buy take you to the cleaners.  Here are the links to the cheap cables (I do not get any commission and was not compensated for putting these on here):

Even if you pay for overnight shipping you’re still ahead of the game.
